Korea Touch Rugby starts again in March

Lots of activity on this subject on the Korea Touch Association facebook page so maybe this year we'll see a resurgence of Touch Korea and perhaps even entry of Korea into the Federation of International Touch? Got to make sense especially as Korea will, like China, probably use Touch as a way to get new people interested in oval ball sports in the lead up to rugby being in the 2016 Olympics. That's certainly what China is doing with Touch for women...

What the? This site is staying black!

So Korea didn't make the HK Sevens which means that despite their win in Shanghai they must have fallen away in later sevens tournaments (IRB Asia Sevens...anyone know what happened? Anyway, now your correspondent has no need to srape around for HK tickets...

Note: The official name of this sport is "Touch" but this video used the term "touch rugby" for Koreans who are new to the sport and have no idea what this is.

Touch in Korea closes out 2012 season

Looks like Touch is over for the year in Korea....ahhhh, shame! However, 2011 has been a year for building and a change in regime as responsibility for running things was steadily transferred to a new team. So how about 2012? Will this be the year that Korea picks it up again, gets the ITS (International Touch Seoul) tournament going again and maybe even joins FIT? That would take a lot of organising but with a strong tournaments in Shanghai and Hong Kong, then perhaps a sort of NE Asia champions league could emerge...a bit like the IRB Rugby Sevens? Hope that enough people with the time and energy to devote to building the sport come forward....meanwhile, if you check the Korea Touch Association website and Facebook pages, you can see that there is plent of interest which could be turned into action!

Korea in the Rugby World Cup

Korea didn't participate in the Rugby World Cup while Japan has been the only nation representing Asia since the first world cup. However, Korean rugby is partially involved in the RWC in other ways.

A journalist from Chosun Daily, the biggest news paper in Korea, came to Auckland to write about QF matches. It is a rare opportunity in Korea that Rugby covers almost full page of the new paper.

Tom and Jodie, cycling 30,000km from Twickenham Stadium to Eden Park, have been recieved a Korea national team jersey 8 months after they visited Korea. The jersey along with other 27 nations is displayed at Ponsonby Rugby Club, a 135 year old Rugby Club in Aucland. See more information http://www.cyclingtotherugbyworldcup.com/RugbyinSouthKorea.php
